Adelphi is seeking Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to provide interpreting services for a school district in Grays Harbor County, Washington. The ideal candidate will facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff, ensuring access to educational content and participation in all school activities.

Requirements:
• Must hold a valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter in Washington State.
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification or equivalent preferred.
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certification with a score of 3.5 or higher is preferred.
• Completion of a degree or certification program in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting or a related field.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with deaf culture.
• Experience working as an interpreter, preferably in a school or educational setting.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with school teams and families.
Responsibilities:
• Provide real-time ASL interpretation for students in academic, social, and extracurricular settings.
• Adapt interpreting methods based on students’ age, language level, and individual needs.
• Ensure effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and families to support students’ academic and social success.
• Provide interpretation during school events, such as assemblies, field trips, and parent-teacher conferences.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards for interpreters.
• Clarify and rephrase information as needed to ensure student understanding without altering content.
• Act as a cultural mediator when appropriate to support understanding between deaf students and hearing staff or peers.
• Document and report any issues related to student progress or interpreting needs to school personnel.
