Skyway Concession Company is growing and is looking for qualified Equipment Operator. Must have CDL.

Position Summary:

Performs a variety of highway maintenance duties, using appropriate caution and following applicable safety guidelines.

Incumbent may work in inclement weather during the performance of duties with frequent exposure to fumes, exhaust, noise, vibrations, dust or dirt, in addition to exposure to fast moving traffic and potential traffic accidents.

Must be able to stand, bend, or operate highway maintenance equipment for long periods of time. Moderate manual dexterity and strong grip strength is required to operate equipment. Performs heavy lifting, shoveling, and material transfer requiring frequent exertion and strain.

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs on a routine basis. Lifting may reach and exceed 100lbs at times.

Direct Relationships:

  • Works either independently or with a crew of employees. Frequent contact with the motoring public, Chicago Police Department and other SCC department personnel.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Patches, chips, seals and blacktop roads
  • Trims around hedges and signs and cuts down and removes dead trees
  • Mows grass along road shoulder and right of way
  • Loads and dumps crushed stone, sand, and salt from trucks
  • Operates various types of equipment requiring moderate training including, but not limited to: trucks that may be equipped with abrasive spreader, oil distributor or bucket rig, tractors that may be equipped with mowers, scrapers, spreaders, sweepers or loaders, bush hogs, trenchers, post drivers, jack hammers, portable pavement marking machines and tar kettle, street sweepers and front-end loaders
  • Cleans storm drains, sewers, bridge decks, piers, and culverts
  • Aids in cleaning highway after accidents and removes trash from roadside
  • Assists in performing various winter maintenance activities, such as operating and maintaining snow and ice removal equipment, sign, guardrail, and fence repair, rest and other related functions that may be assigned
  • Ensures proper care and cleaning of equipment as instructed by supervisor
  • Works in accordance with all safety policies and procedure guidelines
  • Performs patrolling duties as assigned
  • Subject to twenty-four-(24) hour call
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/ GED
  • Working knowledge of highway maintenance practices preferred, but not required
  • Ability to use various hand tools and materials used in highway maintenance
  • Ability to operate a variety of highway maintenance equipment ranging from small power tools to large vehicular equipment requiring moderate training
  • Knowledge of traffic laws that apply to light and heavy equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions and work both individually and as part of a team
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (at least Class B) with air-brake endorsement
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs
  • Must have strong grip strength to operate equipment

Desirable Experience:

  • 1-2 years experience with common equipment used in highway operations preferred
  • Past snow plowing experience preferred, but not required
