Brief Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the person holding this position will be to provide quality instruction in a variety of undergraduate medical coding and insurance billing related courses as part of the City College Nursing, Health and Safety Department. Reporting to the department chair and supervised by the dean of the college, the medical coding faculty will also support the mission, purpose, and goals of City College at Montana State University Billings. Responsibilities include teaching 18 credits for the academic year of Medical Coding and Insurance Billing specific and department-related coursework. The Medical Coding faculty will collaborate with peer department instructors to ensure courses and curriculum meet student and business needs, as well as academic advising of program students, retention, and resource development activities, in addition to delivering courses and teaching.

Duties and Responsibilities

General

Teaching

Instructional preparation and teaching of assigned courses in the curriculum.

Facilitate the learning process that creates a safe, non-threatening climate that supports learning across the curriculum.

Participate in the assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet program outcomes.

Teach 18 credit hours per year in online settings.

Teach various courses in medical coding and insurance billing, including, but not limited to, Medical Terminology and all Medical Coding and Insurance Billing Specialist program required courses.

Deliver online instruction and maintain a welcoming course environment and culture adhering to MSUB's RSI Policy.

Support student success, including office hours and student advising.

Improve and refine curriculum and course content to meet the needs of changing student populations.

Assess student learning at the course, program, and institutional level.

Service

University service, including participating in committees and activities as appropriate to the position.

Serve on committees, task force(s), and special projects contributing to the growth of the Program, City College, and Montana State University Billings.

Participate in local AAPC Chapter meetings and activities

Scholarly Activities

Maintain appropriate certifications and licenses.

Maintain proficiency in teaching and specialty expertise.

Maintain expertise in discipline. Attend selected professional development activities.

Maintains currency in medical coding and insurance billing through certification CEUs and the review of relevant journals, abstracts, and scientific literature to include existing and emerging technologies, including underlying educational principles.

Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentials

Experience Required:Minimum two years of work experience related to Medical Coding and Insurance Billing

Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Education Preferred:

Continuing education through the AAPC Certified Professional Biller Course with the intent to complete AAPC CPB Certification within 6 months of hire.

Continuing education through the AAPC Certified Approved Instructor Course with intent to complete AAPC Approved Instructor Certification within 1 year of hire.

Experience Preferred:

Demonstrated experience teaching with a Learning Management System (i.e. Desire2Learn, Canvas, etc).

Experience in revenue cycle management

Experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level.

Experience teaching underprepared/developmental learners.

Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques to enhance student success.

Experience with teaching traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

Experience developing and delivering online content

Special Requirements

Physical Demands

Requires sufficient mobility to work in a college with hands-on programs and operations, operate office equipment, able to lift, push or pull at least 25 lbs. Additional physical demands may include: stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching overhead and horizontally, repetitive hand movements, sitting for extended periods of time, and 4-6 hours of screen time per day.
