Job Description

Work Schedule and Shift Premiums
  • 7am - 3:30pm Monday - Friday, plus on-call rotation after training
  • Weekend premium is $2.00 per hour

Qualifications for the Maintenance Technician
  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution is required
  • Prior experience in the maintenance field is necessary together with a working knowledge of NFPA and OSHA regulations, pneumatic controls, electrical wiring / troubleshooting, and basic mechanical troubleshooting
  • Established carpentry, plumbing, drywall and painting skills and experience preferred
  • Good computer skills relative to building management systems, work orders, email etc.
  • Understanding of heating and cooling systems
  • Boiler system knowledge preferred
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic systems for troubleshooting capabilities
  • Able to perform plumbing repairs (experience preferred)
  • Knowledge in HVAC DDC controls is preferred
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a multi-disciplinary troubleshooting environment
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver license; chauffeurs or CDL preferred
  • Must be highly organized
Responsibilities of the Maintenance Technician
  • Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance, and safety standards
  • Performs minor repair on electrical equipment, machinery, buildings and facilities to include painting, plaster, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work
  • Checks and replaces broken electrical switches and makes other electrical repairs
  • Uses plaster and brick to repair and/or maintain building and facilities
  • Assists other maintenance personnel in the service and repair of machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Checks work order system a minimum of twice a day and completes required work within five workdays
  • Keeps work areas clean, orderly and safe. Ensures the proper care and use of equipment and supplies
  • Maintains departmental records in the manner prescribed, prepares reports and files as necessary
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned
  • Complies with Hospital policies, accreditation requirements and quality assurance initiatives
  • Is flexible and available when emergency situations require impromptu staffing arrangements
  • Maintains favorable attendance. Reports absences in accordance with the Employee Handbook in the manner prescribed by the Department Manager
  • Completes mandatory education and training in the required timeframe
  • Ensures the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) at all times, sharing confidential information only with those who have a need to know in order to perform their jobs. Does not discuss patient care or hospital business in public areas (i.e. elevators, hallways, lobby, etc.)
  • Works safely and exhibits safety awareness. Immediately report all accidents, incidents, and near misses. Immediately report and correct any safety hazards. Use equipment properly and report needed repairs to the appropriate individual. Report any non-compliance as needed
  • Practices service excellence in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures
  • Maintains professional appearance, properly displaying ID badge while at work, and taking pride in the appearance of the facility by disposing of litter and keeping the work environment clean and uncluttered
